The social probability theories, and historical & natural observations contained in this book were developed over many years and others are based on observations and current events in history. I have also included two new products I discovered while living in my native country of Saint Lucia. Additionally, I review the world, its beauty, and its history. Humanity has reached a milestone. While in Saint Lucia, I noted several alien sightings and have shared my observations of these sightings through this book. I reviewed many natural and historical observations, have looked at the world, and saw the wonder it contains. The reader will see references to "Mind Probe technology". This technology is used by governments with the technology to conduct systematic checks on people of interest. I became aware of the technology while living in Saint Lucia because of the alien sightings, I witnessed and the conclusions I drew from those sightings. It is imperative that, as a society, we do not perceive these alien visitors as a threat. It is my summation that they can be the harbingers of great technology and enhanced medical care that will benefit humanity. I hope that with the writing of this book, the scientific community and committee that discusses these phenomena will welcome me as a member because I believe I can contribute greatly to their investigation of the alien presence that I surmise have been visiting earth for thousands if not millions of years.

This story is derived from as human a document as ever existed; and, because of its uncommon nature, perhaps no one thing contributes so much to its value as its authenticity. It is an autobiography, and more: in part it is a biography; for, in telling the story of my life, I must relate the history of another self-a self which was dominant from my twenty-fourth to my twenty-sixth year. During that period I was unlike what I had been, or what I have been since. The biographical part of my autobiography might be called the history of a mental civil war, which I fought single-handed on a battlefield that lay within the compass of my skull. An Army of Unreason, composed of the cunning and treacherous thoughts of an unfair foe, attacked my bewildered consciousness with cruel persistency, and would have destroyed me, had not a triumphant Reason finally interposed a superior strategy that saved me from my unnatural self.

Simon Heffer's new book forms an ambitious exploration of the making of the Victorian age and the Victorian mind. Britain in the 1840s was a country wracked by poverty, unrest and uncertainty, where there were attempts to assassinate the Queen and her prime minister, and the ruling class lived in fear of riot and revolution. By the 1880s it was a confident nation of progress and prosperity, transformed not just by industrialisation but by new attitudes to politics, education, women and the working class. That it should have changed so radically was very largely the work of an astonishingly dynamic and high-minded group of people – politicians and philanthropists, writers and thinkers – who in a matter of decades fundamentally remade the country, its institutions and its mindset, and laid the foundations for modern society. It traces the evolution of British democracy and shows how early laissez-faire attitudes to the lot of the less fortunate turned into campaigns to improve their lives and prospects. It analyses the birth of new attitudes to education, religion and science. And it shows how even such aesthetic issues as taste in architecture were swept in to broader debates about the direction that the country should take. In the process, Simon Heffer looks at the lives and deeds of major politicians, from the devout and principled Gladstone to the unscrupulous Disraeli; at the intellectual arguments that raged among writers and thinkers such as Matthew Arnold, Thomas Carlyle, and Samuel Butler; and at the 'great projects' of the age, from the Great Exhibition to the Albert Memorial. Drawing heavily on previously unpublished documents, he offers a superbly nuanced insight into life in an extraordinary era, populated by extraordinary people – and how our forebears’ pursuit of perfection gave birth to modern Britain.

Originally published in 1950, the name of the late Dr H.G. Baynes was already well-known as a leading exponent of and translator of the writings of Professor C.G. Jung, as author and as psychotherapist. The essay which gives it title to this varied and interesting collection of writings, shows clearly Dr Baynes’s gift for illuminating a familiar subject with fresh insight drawn from his wide knowledge of the unconscious mind. He can make the unconscious real to us, and can convince us that myth and dream are expressions of vital problems of the human soul. The collection includes material to interest many types of reader, from The British Journal of Medical Psychology, from Folk-Lore, from The Society for Psychical Research. But perhaps most full of interest for the majority of readers are the first three chapters of an unfinished book – What It Is All About; here we find an admirable introduction, given with a wealth of illustration, to the main concepts of Professor Jung’s analytical psychology. Dr Baynes made Professor Jung’s thought his own, without loss of his own originality. He can touch with significance any subject on which he writes, whether it be the problem of the individual or the kindred problems of humanity.

MIND ON STATISTICS emphasizes the conceptual development of statistical ideas and the importance of looking for--and finding--meaning in data. Authors Jessica Utts and Robert Heckard actively engage students' natural curiosity, motivating them with intriguing questions and explaining statistical topics in the context of a wide range of interesting, useful examples and case studies. Throughout, the authors balance the promotion of statistical literacy with coverage of the statistical methodology taught in general introductory statistics courses. Their approach is based on the premises that new material is much easier to learn and remember if it is related to something interesting or previously known, and if students actively ask questions and find the answers for themselves. More than any other text available, MIND ON STATISTICS motivates and encourages students to develop their statistical intuition by focusing on analyzing data and interpreting results, rather than on mathematical formulation. If only “we the people” of America could understand that the American Revolution was only a mere political upheaval compared to the moral war we now face. We are divided in morals and ethics more than in culture, wherein truth is more an option than a necessity. Ever since time began, the most celebrated nations have been those that have abridged the exorbitant chasm between morality and secularism, between feelings and principles, righteousness and unrighteousness. America appears to have joined the infamous tradition of derelict and ungodly nations that have surrendered their integrity for power and wealth, like ancient Babylon. In this The Last Word to America, the intent is to paint a living portrait of the ways in which America has abandoned divine counsel—how Washington, significant events, and personalities have shaped personal experience. It explores music and the perverse arts, through which philosophers are damaging our young people and the families of America are sullied.

We live in a time of relentless change. The only thing that?s certain is that new challenges and opportunities will emerge that are virtually unimaginable today. How can we know which skills will be required to succeed? In Five Minds for the Future, bestselling author Howard Gardner shows how we will each need to master "five minds" that the fast-paced future will demand: · The disciplined mind, to learn at least one profession, as well as the major thinking (science, math, history, etc.) behind it · The synthesizing mind, to organize the massive amounts of information and communicate effectively to others · The creating mind, to revel in unasked questions - and uncover new phenomena and insightful apt answers · The respectful mind, to appreciate the differences between human beings - and understand and work with all persons · The ethical mind, to fulfill one's responsibilities as both a worker and a citizen Without these "minds," we risk being overwhelmed by information, unable to succeed in the workplace, and incapable of the judgment needed to thrive both personally and professionally. Complete with a substantial new introduction, Five Minds for the Future provides valuable tools for those looking ahead to the next generation of leaders - and for all of us striving to excel in a complex world. Howard Gardner—cited by Foreign Policy magazine as one of the one hundred most influential public intellectuals in the world, and a MacArthur Fellowship recipient—is the Hobbs Professor of Cognition and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
